Taking this position in the Short Term Missions Department at Adventures in Missions took a lot of trust in God that He would provide. I took the opportunity and ran with it just trying to trust that the Lord would help provide for this new adventure I had taken. Throughout this last year, I was so blessed by the support I was receiving from people in my life. Although I had support coming in, I still needed about $4,000 by the end of September and was still needing more support going into next year. With the deadline being less than a month away, I was getting a bit discouraged not knowing how the rest of the support was going to come in.

I decided to try a Facebook fundraiser (which many of you probably saw) to raise support for Adventures in Missions. I was nervous starting out and was just praying that people would see my heart. I was hearing lies come in and I was hesitant to get started with it. Honestly I was doubting that it was going to work, but thought that maybe, just maybe, I could raise a thousand dollars with that poster board.

As I was pulling out of my apartment complex the morning I started the fundraiser, I saw the maintenance man (Michael) picking up trash. He is probably in his 40’s and his accent leads you to believe that he is from Africa. I had met him before and always see him around the apartment complex smiling and waving to people as he was working. I rolled down my window and told him to have a great day. He replied with a smile and said, “thank you! I will be praying for you that the Lord has great favor on you today.” I said thank you, and drove off not knowing that God was literally about to blow my socks off.

I posted my picture of an empty board and not a whole lot of hope and belief in myself at that point. Although I didn’t really want to do it, I knew I had to put myself out there so I posted the first picture.

As a few donations started to come in, I started to get more excited about it and wanted to have the next ones reflect my personality and had some more fun with it!

After a few days, I just had a few more squares to sweep off the board!

I kept posting and support kept coming in! After the first two days I had raised a few thousand dollars!! I was amazed at what was happening! A few more days later, but board was completely blacked out and the support that had come in was a little over $5,000!

I was in tears so many times throughout the process because I was SO thrilled and couldn’t believe what just happened! It was almost too much to even wrap my head around. But then, I remembered the prayer from Michael the maintenance man. I believe God sent Michael to give me hope that morning. It helped me see that I have a good Father who wants His children to have good gifts. He wants us to know that He has our backs! All of the support and encouragement helped re-affirm that this is exactly where I am supposed to be and also gave me so much hope for the future that the Lord has for me!

Thank you ALL again SO much!! I am so blessed by you. 🙂

  1. It was such an inspiration to see how God blessed your efforts! And fun to see your creativity with it! I hope that everything is still going so well in Georgia!
